What makes Individuals, Organizations, and Nations successful ?

Success here is defined as size of income. (Dollars are more easily measured than other types of success.) Based on research, items are listed in their power to influence success. IQ is less important in incomes than is commonly thought.

Sloan's goals in presenting information on this website:

1. Present the majority opinion of respected academic leaders in the field of success factors like intelligence and social skills (where I have done original research).

2. Present that majority opinion in a readable, understandable form - not the technical jargon many academics use. Important minority opinions are included, but too much of this can detract from the clarity of the issues for a general purpose audience.

3. Document the sources from which the opinions come (as my detailed calcuations of IQ's in US states - the first ever done). When available, I use hard data, not arguments or theories.

4. Help foster reasonable expectations for teachers and educational administrators. The majority of the public believes that ethnic groups would perform equally in schools and in jobs if educators did their work better. Similarly, many women believe that gender bias is responsible for the lower number of high scoring females on math tests. The majority of researchers know that these are false assumtions.

I do not have an agenda on racial differences. The original purpose of my website was to highlight my work in social skills and other traits which contribute to success. Those traits, unlike IQ, turned out not correlate with race. Fortunately, many non-IQ success traits can be improved with training. But my website readers were more interested in IQ, so I added pages on it, using data from respected researchers. Click for this page that summarizes IQ/ race data.
